Blackrock Canyon – Pocatello

Just south of Pocatello, the BLM has developed a 12-mile ATV loop trail in the Pocatello Mountains near China Peak and Pebble Creek Ski Area. To reach the trailhead, take Interstate 15 south of Pocatello to the Portneuf Area exit. Go left and drive up Blackrock Canyon Road. Park at the main trailhead, which has several picnic shelters and a rest room. Go north on the Blackrock Canyon 4WD road several miles to the four-way junction at the top of the ridge. Turn right and follow the trail over to the top of Caddy Canyon and stay to the left to take the route that descends from the Caddy Canyon spring down the bottom of Caddy Canyon to the bottom of the valley, and follow the jeep trail next to the freeway back around to the trailhead. There are several other trails to explore in the area, and several other trailheads to consider in your next visit. Be sure to bring plenty of food and water. No services.
