RV Share Reviews (Everything You Need To Know + Overall Rating)

Welcome to Stay On Trails 2023 RVshare Review

Last year I spent thousands of dollars renting from multiple RV rental companies in my local area until I ran into RVshare.

At that point, I decided there wasn’t enough information out on RVshare.

So I decided to take matters into my own hands and listed the most IMPORTANT parts using the RVshare platform.

Pros & Cons of RVshare
Pros
  • Insurance of up to $1,00,000 is available to cover the worst case scenario
  • Option of getting the RV delivered already set up for a small extra charge
  • Great way to test the water if you are thinking about buying one in the future
  • Payment through the RV Share payment system is safe and secure and comes with a $10,000 guarantee
  • And there is even a cash back program giving you a 5% discount on your next rental
Cons
  • Choice of RVs available depends partly on your location. Fewer options for those living in more remote areas
  • You don’t always get a response straight away when you make a booking request. RV owners are human. They may be busy or maybe even not so great at using the online system themselves. This can be frustrating for the renter waiting for a reply
  • The extra usage will increase the mileage and also cause wear and tear for the vehicle. However, this should be offset by the rental fees received.

Is Their Insurance Good?

In a event of serious damage, for example, arising from a collision or other accidents, both parties can fall back on RV Share’s own insurance policy.

This is included in the deal for no extra charge.

It offers liability coverage of up to $500,000 as standard as well as an option to upgrade to $1,000,000.

For further peace of mind, renters automatically qualify for roadside assistance. This is available 24/7 throughout their hire period for no extra fee. Read more here

How Much Can You Really Make Listing Your RV On RVShare

Most common question is how much money can I make listing my RV?

It depends, the income you earn will range, depending on how many times out of the  year you are willing to rent your RV + your location & the type of RV you own. Those are the two major factors to consider.

On average, RV owners who rent their RV on RVshare make more than $10,000 a year. There are a large number of owners who are making more than $30,000 a year.

Here’s the link to list your RV:

RVshare Is More Affordable Then Conventional RV Renting

Compared to most conventional RV rental companies, you will get a better deal. While you would normally expect to pay around $200 per day as standard, on RV Share you can choose from across a broad price range – around $150 –$250 to find something that is within your budget.

You can also look out for bargain prices as some owner offer discounts at the less popular times of the year.

The Easiest Way To Rent Is On RV Share

You will also be able to find a far greater range of models available.

Most standard companies will have an average of just three or four models to choose from.

Because of the wide-ranging of membership of RV Share there will be a far greater choice.

Also, remember that these RVs are in regular use by their owners. That means that they will often have lots of personal touches and added extras that you would not normally expect to find.

This can include awnings or a good sound system. And because these are not considered to be additional extras, they won’t add to the cost of the hire.

Advantages for Listing Your RV on RVShare

There are plenty of good reasons why an RV owner might be attracted to the idea of renting out their vehicle. For a start, buying and maintaining a motorhome is a big expense.

Renting it out during the times you are not using it is a great way to earn back some of that money.

It also saves the owner the cost of paying for somewhere for the vehicle to sit while not in use. In short, it is an easy way of generating some extra income and saving some money at the same time.

RV Share site is also a great community of RV enthusiasts who like to share information about not only about their own vehicles but also about their ideal vehicle they dream of owning someday.

RV Share's Insurance (More In-depth)

The importance of insurance should never be underestimated by either the owner or the renter.

All rentals through RV Share is covered by their own insurance policy. This will be reassuring to both parties, but in particular to the owner who may be anxious about letting a complete stranger drive their RV, even if only for a short period of time.

However it essential that the renter is clear about what is covered and what is not. It is also vital to make sure that both parties take note of any existing damage so that the renter is not held responsible for dents and scratches that were already there. Any new damage will, of course, be the renter’s responsibility

For further peace of mind, renters automatically qualify for roadside assistance. This is available 24/7 throughout their hire period for no extra fee. This service is provided by a local company in conjunction with RV Share to ensure that prompt assistance is available when and where it is needed.

How It Works Listing Your RV On The RVShare Plateform

If you are an RV owner the first thing you need to do is create your own account and profile on the website.

It’s FREE. You can do it here.

Here you will be able to add all the relevant details about the vehicle you are offering. This will include basics such as the size of the van and how old it is. You don’t need to provide any credit card details just to register.

Next, you will need to add a photo of your RV and fill out the description with more details. This is where you can let the prospective renter find all the information they need to decide if your vehicle is what they are looking for. There is no fee for listing your vehicle. However, if you want yours to be a featured listing then there is an additional charge. But this is entirely up to you whether or not to pay the extra.

If you don’t know where to start regarding how much to charge, don’t worry the site will help by suggesting a price that is in line with what other owners of RVs of a similar type and condition are charging.

When a renter makes a request to rent your motorhome, you can review the request and decide whether or not to accept it.

RVShare Rental Process (How It works)

When you visit the site you will see that they are listed initially by state and then by category.

There is a choice of Class A, Class B or Class C as well as travel trailers. Within the trailer category, you can narrow it down to more specific types such as fifth wheels, pop-ups, or toy haulers and truck campers.

When you find the vehicle that you want to rent, you can make a booking request. This doesn’t book the RV.

It simply sends a message to the owner to let them know that someone is interested in renting their vehicle. The owner will get back to you to let you know if they accept your request.

Assuming your request is accepted you will then be in touch directly with the vehicle owner. From them, you can ask any further question you might have and also find out more about the terms and conditions of the hire.

Key Points

Key points which need to be clarified at this stage include additional cost for mileage and generator use.

At this time you should also check about any rules and how to extend the booking. The owner may be willing to deliver the RV to your home. Otherwise, you will arrange a time to collect it.

It is important to arrange a time to go over the working of the RV with the owner to be sure that you understand how everything works. This is an important part of hiring a vehicle so make sure you allow time to get all the information you need for a safe and easy trip.

Many of the RV’s available on RV Share are pet-friendly.

This is something you can check when searching on the site. However, even if the owner allows pets make sure you are aware of any special rules that apply to them. For example there may be some additional cleaning costs associated with bringing your pet along.

Conclusion

In the past, there wasn’t much choice. You could go to your local dealer which offered a secure option but limited the choice to what they had in stock. Or you could rent directly from an owner through a small ad. Again the choice was limited and there was less security in terms of payment transfers. There were more risks and it could be hard to know what you were getting and where you stood in term of insurance and responsibility of damage.

The advantage of using RV Share is that you get access to a wider choice of vehicles but have all the security that comes from renting through a professional specialist site. RV Share offers its own insurance policy as part of the rental package.

As the site grows in popularity and new members join, the choice for renters becomes even wider. You can search by state to find RV owners close to your home then add more details to narrow it down to exactly what you are looking for. You can also send a message to the owner through the site and they are usually quick to get back to you and answer any questions you might have. RV Share is the leading peer to peer platform when it comes to renting RVs. Although there many similar websites offering RVs for rent, RV Share was the first company to offer the option of renting not just from dealers but also from individual owners. This increases the range of options for renters as they are no longer limited to what is available through their local dealer. And now the service has expanded to cover every state across the whole of the USA. This means a wider choice for renters as they can choose from hundreds of different motorhomes and RVs listed on RV Share.
